Whats Up Beauty: Shorter Days Collection

*Disclosure: Press samples – I received these polishes for free in exchange for swatch photography. All reviews and opinions are my own.*

Hello! Today I’m here with the latest collection from Whats Up Beauty (also known as Whats Up Nails) – the Shorter Days collection. The collection is currently available on the Whats Up Beauty website, and it features 6 gorgeous polishes in various finishes.

Polishes in the collection currently retail for $69.91 as a set, including a bar magnet for the magnetic polish, or $12.75 individually (the magnetic polish does not come with a bar magnet in this case). We have a fun mix of polishes today, so let’s get into the swatches!

Chrome Colored Glasses

Chrome Colored Glasses is described as a rose gold chrome shimmer nail polish.

Chrome Colored Glasses had a super smooth formula that leant slightly on the lighter side. I absolutely loved the brush that all of the polishes in this set came with – it was the perfect length, width, and curvature for me. Chrome Colored Glasses is pretty sheer on its first couple of coats, but with thin coats it builds up very well. The polish has a stunning chrome foil-y finish.

Shown is three coats plus glossy top coat.

Horsehead Nebula

Horsehead Nebula is described as an incredible purple duochrome magnetic nail polish with iridescent duochrome shimmer. The polish shifts from purple to gold to a hint of green.

Oh. My. Gosh. Horsehead Nebula is absolutely stunning, and an obvious collection favorite for me. The formula is quite opaque, even when magnetized on the first coat, and the formula is also not too thick or thin. I recommend going in medium thin coats and magnetizing the polish at each layer.

I was given the Whats Up Nails magnet to work with, and I thought the magnet was really easy to work with. It magnetized my layers really easily and quickly, and because it’s thinner it’s easier for me to hold.

The shift on this polish is absolutely insane – swipe through the swatch carousel to get mesmerized by its beauty. I loved this polish, and I’m excited to try some more magnetic designs with it.

Lost Frost

Lost Frost is described as a light blue crelly nail polish with blue iridescent shimmer.

Lost Frost was a smooth crelly with a formula that’s not too thick or thin. I recommend going for slightly thinner coats and not overdoing the strokes since the polish evens out relatively well. The polish isn’t the greatest with opacity in the beginning, but it does build up well by the third coat. I thought the polish was a very flattering tone of blue on my skin tone.

Squid Escape

Squid Escape is described as a dark blue crelly nail polish with multicolored iridescent flakies.

Squid Escape had a more jelly-leaning formula compared to Lost Frost, and it was also a bit more uneven on the first coat too. After the first coat, though, the polishes self levels much better, so it might have just been the way I was polishing. I recommend building the polish in thinner coats, as in general it has a thinner formula, and to also build up the flakie depth.

Bee or Not to Be

Bee or Not to Be is described as a yellow creme nail polish.

Bee or Not to Be had a very smooth formula that self levels well. The formula wasn’t too thick or thin, and it also dried very glossy. I thought this creme formula was great – it definitely builds up well and makes the polish look squishy, which I personally wanted with this color.

Tasting Trip

Tasting Trip is described as a dark burgundy brown creme nail polish.

Tasting Trip was a more opaque creme than Bee or Not to Be was – much closer to a one coater, but I still needed two coats to darken up a few lighter spots that I had. Any strokes that you have when polishing disappear when the polish dries, and it also dries very glossy.

I thought that Tasting Trip was a relatively unique shade of brown – I’m not sure I have anything like it in my collection, since most of my browns are more cool-toned (compared to Tasting Trip, which is more warm-toned).

Bonus: Nail Art

I also have a bonus nail art look to share, featuring three polishes from this set! I used Bee or Not to Be as my base, Squid Escape for the dot pattern, and Lost Frost for the accent dot. This was a super easy look to do, but I think it looks quite artistic and interesting despite its simplicity.

This was my first time working with polishes from the Whats Up Beauty/Whats Up Nails brand, and I think my overall first impression was great. The polishes are definitely very beginner friendly, and the brush is fantastic too.

Let me know if you’ll be picking any of these beauties up, and thanks for reading!

XOXO,

Lauren
