Polish Pickup: Monsters & Mythical Creatures (October 2021)

*Disclosure: Press samples – I received these polishes for free in exchange for swatch photography. All reviews and opinions are my own.*

Hello, and welcome to my October PPU post! For those that are new, Polish Pickup (PPU) is a monthly collaborative online shop where indie makers contribute products (typically nail polish) inspired by a theme. The theme this month is Monsters & Mythical Creatures, and the shop is open for preorder on the Polish Pickup site from October 1 at 11am ET to October 4 at 11:59pm ET.

I have five polishes to share with you this month, a little less than I normally have and will have due to a long vacation I took. The polishes I have to share with you today are all gorgeous, so let’s get into it!

BCB Lacquers: Nyx

Nyx is described as an orchid purple with a strong gold/purple shift and holo. It is inspired by fan art of Nyx the Goddess of Night.

Nyx had a slightly sheer formula, and it applies jelly-like. I recommend going for thinner coats to build the base color up, as it gives a gemstone-y feel with shimmer. I had some nail line at two coats, so I went for three. This polish is really delicately and softly gorgeous.

Shown is three coats plus glossy top coat.

Nyx will be available for $13 with a cap of 300.

Dreamland Lacquer: Spirit of Samhain

Spirit of Samhain is described as a black jelly base filled with orange-gold-green shifting flakes and orange holo glitter. It is inspired by Sam, the Samhain/Halloween spirit in the movie Trick ‘r Treat.

The flakes in this polish come out easily and evenly, and the base is a jelly-like formula that’s not too thick or thin. The glitter mix makes it really look like twinkling halloween lights – a perfect Halloween polish in my opinion.

Shown is two coats plus glossy top coat.

Spirit of Samhain will be available for $12 with no cap.

Nailed It: Dream Eater

Dream Eater is described as a smoky indigo base with a mix of crystal flakies ranging from red to copper to purple to gold, and holo flakies. It is inspired by Baku, which according to Japanese legends, is said to devour nightmares.

Like all other Nailed It flakie polishes, Dream Eater was packed with flakes that are easy to work with.

Shown is two coats plus glossy top coat.

Dream Eater will be available for $13 with a cap of 300.

Rogue Lacquer: Sea-Horse

Sea-Horse is described as an ocean blue pink/orange color shifting flakes, holo flakes with turquoise metallic flakes. It is inspired by Hippocampus.

Sea-Horse pretty densely packed with glitters and flakes, and the formula overall is not too thick or thin. I recommend building the polish up in thinner coats – I could have been fine with opacity in two coats, but I went for three to build up the depth and have extra bling. The result is stunning, and the polish twinkles like lights under the sea.

Shown is three coats plus glossy top coat.

Sea-Horse will be available for $13 with no cap.

Wildflower Lacquer: Geralt Can Have All My Coins

Geralt Can Have All My Coins is described as a deep navy base with purple undertones and strong orange to gold to green shifting shimmer, and scattered holo. It is inspired by Henry Cavill in The Witcher.

This polish was quite literally a one coater – it’s so smooth and opaque with no brush strokes shown when dry. I did two coats to deepen the color a bit, but I also think it looks great with one medium/thick coat. The polish dries a bit flat, and the shimmer is so incredibly stunning.

Shown is two coats plus glossy top coat.

Geralt Can Have All My Coins will be available for $13 with no cap.

Thanks for reading, and happy shopping!

XOXO,

Lauren
