*Disclosure: Press samples – I received these polishes for free in exchange for swatch photography. All reviews and opinions are my own.*
Hello, and welcome to a very special post! Today I’ll be sharing six shades that will be available as part of this year’s Hellaween celebration. Hella Handmade Creations (HHC) asked two makers – Bluebird Lacquer and Rogue Lacquer – to create a trio of polishes inspired by Halloween, and are giving away sets of these trios in their Afterparty Facebook group all throughout October. At this time, these polishes are only available through the giveaways and are not available for purchase (although they may become available later on if there’s enough interest).
I was super lucky to be able to swatch these polishes, and I was also inspired to create two nail art looks featuring them as well. I hope you enjoy – let’s get into it!
Bluebird Lacquer
Pumpkin Smash
Pumpkin Smash is described as a pumpkin jelly with a mix of shifting flakies in greens, coppers, golds and oranges.
Pumpkin Smash had an easy to work with jelly base, as well as a medium level of flakie density.
Shown is three coats plus glossy top coat.
Monster Mash
Monster Mash is described as a black jelly scattered holo with a green to red shimmer.
Monster Mash was quite opaque on the first coat despite having a slightly thinner formula. I recommend building it up in two light coats, and I also thought this was quite a flattering dark shade on my skin tone.
Shown is two coats plus glossy top coat.
Itchy Costume Rash
Itchy Costume Rash is described as a smoky purple to purple thermal with green-gold-red shifting iridescent flakies.
Itchy Costume Rash had a thinner formula that did pool a little bit, but could be prevented if you go in with lighter coats. The formula is jelly-like and the base is quite light in color, so I recommend building it up with thinner coats to also flatter the flakes’ depth. Itchy Costume Rash dries semi-gloss, and the thermal transition is sometimes quick and sometimes slow – because the shades are similar, I did have a bit of trouble distinguishing the middle states (the coldest and warmest states, however, differ noticeably).
Shown is three coats plus glossy top coat in the warmer states, and then the colder states.
Rogue Lacquer
Hella Good Costumes
Hella Good Costumes is described as a green and chartreuse metallic flakes with scatter holo and micro flakes.
Hella Good Costumes had a smooth and even formula despite the high density of flakes. I could have done two coats, but I went for three to see if I would get a plumpier look (which I did). The tone is a bit more on the warm green side, and the final finish a reflective metallic.
Shown is three coats plus two coats of glossy top coat.
S’more Spooky Stories
S’more Spooky Stories is described as a vibrant purple with holo flake and color shifting flakes.
S’more Spooky Stories was super opaque on the first coat, and the formula is slightly thicker leaning. The formula is very smooth, and it’s one of those blurple-purples that deepen in saturation after topping with a normal glossy top coat. In terms of tone, the polish is more purple than in my photos, and the red shimmer also was not well photographed in my swatches. I would be wary of staining with this polish since it’s quite opaque.
Shown is two coats with glossy top coat, and then with/without glossy top coat compared.
This is Hellaween
This is Hellaween is described as a gray crelly with orange metallic shards copper gold green color shifting flakes.
This is Hellaween had an even flakie distribution and density that required no fishing. The formula leans on the jelly-like side of crellies, and it dries glossy.
Shown is two coats plus glossy top coat.
Nail Art
To top it off, I have two nail art looks featuring polishes from this set! The first look features Pumpkin Smash, Monster Mash, and S’more Spooky Stories. The second look features This is Hellaween as a base color.
Thank you so much for reading! I hope you’re ready for spooky season, because I have a few Halloween collections coming your way👻
XOXO,
Lauren
