Polish Pickup: Elements (August 2021)

*Disclosure: PR samples- I received these polishes for free, some with additional compensation, in exchange for swatch photography. All reviews and opinions are my own.*

Hello hello! It’s that point of the month where swatches for Polish Pickup are starting to show face, and I’m here to contribute a few more.

This month’s Polish Pickup will be open from August 6 at 11am ET to August 9, and the theme is the Elements. I have five polishes to share with you today, so let’s get into it!

Bees Knees Lacquer: Fine, Make Me Your Villain

Fine, Make Me Your Villain is described as a blackened indigo with glowy orange to green shimmer. It is inspired by General Kirigan (aka the Darkling) from Shadow and Bone.

Fine, Make Me Your Villain had an easy to work with formula. It was smooth and self-leveled well, had minimal to no visible brush strokes upon drying, and was gorgeously shifty.

Shown is two coats plus glossy top coat.

Fine, Make Me Your Villain will retail for $13 with no cap.

Different Dimension: Sky Above, Earth Below

Sky Above, Earth Below is described as a beautiful darkened teal jelly polish, loaded with orange to gold to green aurora shimmers and holographic microflakies. It glows bright aqua in the dark, and is inspired by the Earth.

Sky Above, Earth Below had a pretty opaque formula from the get-go. It self-leveled well and applied smoothly – not too thick or too thin. The polish does dry a bit flat, so I recommend pairing it with a glossy top coat. There wasn’t a noticeably gritty texture from the glow in the dark pigment, at least to me.

Shown is two coats plus glossy top coat.

Sky Above, Earth Below will retail for $12 with no cap.

Jen & Berries: Keep Your Anemones Close

Keep Your Anemones Close is described as a blue-green jelly that’s packed with holographic flakies. It is inspired by sea anemones.

Keep Your Anemones Close was absolutely stunning – there’s a depth to this polish that’s hard to capture on camera; I think it comes from the jelly base and how the layers build up really well. I could have gotten away with two coats, but I’m glad I went for three since it deepened the color and flattered the particular finish of the polish more. Application was easy – the flakes in this polish are dense and easy to apply evenly. I think photos on my screen are coming up a little less emerald green-y than the polish looks in person.

Shown is three coats with glossy top coat.

Keep Your Anemones Close will retail for $12.50 with a cap of 135.

Lilypad Lacquer: Flaming Wild

Flaming Wild is described as a cherry pink toned red jelly base filled with pink/orange/gold iridescent flakes. It is inspired by a photo of fire.

Flaming Wild had a smooth jelly formula, and the flakes in it lied nice and flat. I will say that the polish isn’t that densely packed with flakes, but with three layers it does have a pretty effect. The polish is also quite bright in its base.

Shown is three coats plus glossy top coat.

Flaming Wild will retail for $14 with no cap.

Lucky 13 Lacquer: Mooltipass

Mooltipass is described as a bright orange with lots of red-orange/tangerine/gold color-shifting shimmer. It glows bright orange in the dark, and is inspired by the Fifth Element movie.

Mooltipass had an easy formula that wasn’t too thin and self-leveled well. It doesn’t have a gritty texture despite the glow in the dark pigment, and I thought it was quite opaque on the first coat. Be sure to swipe through the carousel to see all the shifts!

Shown is two coats plus glossy top coat.

Mooltipass will retail for $11 with a cap of 150 to 170 (to be finalized).

Nailed It: Heart So Full Of Hope

Heart So Full Of Hope is described as an icy blue base packed with holo flakies, gold, pink, purple, copper crystal flakies, and a subtle linear holo. It is inspired by Katara of Avatar.

Heart So Full Of Hope was super opaque on the first coat, even with light base, and I was very pleasantly surprised by that. It’s packed with flakes so the formula leans on the slightly thicker side, but it’s not hard to work with since the flakes lie flat and come easily.

Shown is two coats plus two coats of glossy top coat. My first coat of top coat was very thin which is why I needed a second, but others will probably be fine with one normal coat of top coat.

Heart So Full Of Hope will retail for $13 with a cap of 300.

Will you be picking any of these beauties up? Let me know, and thanks for reading!

XOXO,

Lauren
