Polish Pickup: 90’s TV (February 2022)

*Disclosure: Press samples – I received these polishes for free, some with additional compensation, in exchange for swatch photography. All reviews and opinions are my own.*

Hello! It’s that time of the month again – Polish Pickup is right around the corner. For those that are new, Polish Pickup is a monthly collaborative shop for indie makers, typically polish, where makers submit products around a central theme. This month’s theme is 90’s TV, and I have 16 products to share with you.

The Polish Pickup shop will be open for preorder from February 4 at 11am ET to February 7 at 11:59pm ET on the Polish Pickup site.

There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get into it!

BCB Lacquers: I GOT RESPONSIBILITIES NOW!

I GOT RESPONSIBILITIES NOW! is described as a hot pink polish with pink/purple/orange/gold shifting flakes, holo flakes and a strong pink/orange shifting shimmer. It is inspired by Angelica from Rugrats.

I GOT RESPONSIBILITIES NOW! had a smooth and even formula, and its flakes come out easily and evenly. I’m personally a big fan of this iridescent flakie and holo flakie combo – I think BCB Lacquers does it very well.

Shown is two coats plus glossy top coat.

I GOT RESPONSIBILITIES NOW! will be available for $13 with a cap of 300.

BCB Lacquers: Fruit Loops Cuticle Oil with doe foot applicator

Fruit Loops cuticle oil is a fun throwback to a favorite childhood cereal.
The oil is in a 10mL thick glass container with a doe-foot applicator and a metallic teal cap.

Oooomg y’all this cuticle oil smells exactly like Fruit Loops and I’m here for it! I’m also a huge fan of the doe foot applicator – it makes it really easy to target the drier parts of your cuticles.

The Fruit Loops cuticle oil will be available for $9 with a cap of 75.

Bees Knees Lacquer: Jawsome

Jawsome is described as a blue to purple pastel multichrome base with gold reflective glitter. It is inspired by the Street Sharks animated series.

Jawsome had a smooth and even formula. It dries flat with gritty texture.

Shown is three coats plus glossy top coat in normal studio lighting, and then with flash.

Jawsome will be available for $13 with no cap.

Cupcake Polish: Overcome With Emotion

Overcome With Emotion is described as a forest green packed with red iridescent aurora shimmer and a scattering of silver holographic glitter. It is inspired by the sarcastic queen Daria.

Overcome With Emotion had a smooth and even, and I didn’t have any notable extra texture from the glitters. I’m personally a huge fan of this finish – Cupcake Polish should definitely come out with more of them!

Shown is two coats plus glossy top coat.

Overcome With Emotion will be available for $13 with no cap.

Cuticula: Against The Tide

Against The Tide is described as a bright blue jelly base with multiple colored shifting glass flakes. It is inspired by the 90’s Little Mermaid animated series.

Against The Tide had a smooth formula with flakes that came out flat and dense. Two coats was fine for opacity but I went for three to deepen the base color and layered effect. The effect here is very eye-catching and interesting in person.

Shown is three coats plus glossy top coat.

Against The Tide will be available for $13 with no cap.

Cuticula: Quenched Smoothing Top Coat

Quenched was created to drench the glitters and leave a glassy smooth to the touch finish on your nails. No longer will you be scared to wear your favorite glitter or flake heavy polishes. This formula simply creates a shield over the glitter allowing it to completely smooth out your polish. With Quenched you can be rest assured that your mani will stay glossy and smooth the entire time.

Shown are a few collages comparing use before and after Quenched!

Quenched will be available for $8.00 with no cap.

Dam Nail Polish: To The Bus

To The Bus is described as a blue jelly with red and yellow glitters and a silver magnetic effect. It is inspired by the Magic School Bus.

To The Bus had a smooth formula with its glitters coming out evenly. The polish magnetizes easily, and there isn’t much texture from the glitters since the jelly base supports it well.

Shown is two coats plus glossy top coat.

To The Bus will be available for $13 with a cap of 200.

Dreamland Lacquer: More Like Dr Michael Badass

More Like Dr Michael Badass is described as a cornflower base loaded up with holo flakes and aurora shimmer that shifts from blue to purple. It is inspired by Dr Michael Baden, the star of one the maker’s favorite murder shows, Autopsy.

More Like Dr Michael Badass had a smooth and even formula. It flakes self-levels well and dries a bit flat so I recommend pairing it with a glossy top coat.

Shown is two coats plus glossy top coat.

More Like Dr Michael Badass will be available for $12 with a cap of 375.

Glisten & Glow: MISS FINE!!!

MISS FINE!!! is described as a bright magenta jelly polish filled with color shifting iridescent flakes that shift from blue/purple/pink and red/orange/green/gold and vibrant fuchsia shreds and a pop of holo microflakes. It is inspired by the Nanny.

MISS FINE!!! had a smooth and slightly thick formula, with dense flakes.

Shown is two coats plus glossy top coat.

MISS FINE!!! will be available for $13 with no cap.

Glisten & Glow: Cuticle Remover & Cuticle Oil Duo

Glisten & Glow brings us a cuticle remover scented in Strawberry and cuticle oil scented in Watermelon.

Glisten & Glow’s Cuticle Remover softens and removes excess cuticle as well as eponychium skin and comes in an easy to use twist-up pen style applicator. Glisten & Glow’s Cuticle Oil Pen is a custom blend of Jojoba Oil, Vitamin E oil, grapeseed oil, sweet almond oil, sunflower oil, argan oil, castor oil, acai berry extract, tea tree oil and fragrance oil.

Both pens smell very fresh and fruity – you’ll love them if you like fruity scents.

The duo will be available for $12.50 with no cap.

Jen & Berries: His Friends Call Him Doc

His Friends Call Him Doc is described as a bold linear holographic with a mix of holographic flakies and a jade/blue/purple/red/gold multichrome shift. It is inspired by the holographic Doctor from Star Trek: Voyager.

His Friends Call Him Doc had a very smooth and even formula. The formula was self-leveling and slightly on the thinner side. All the shifts plus the holo in this polish make it an absolutely stunning one – it’s so much prettier in person than in photos.

Shown is two coats plus glossy top coat.

His Friends Call Him Doc will be available for $13 with a cap of 160.

Kathleen & Co: The Charmed Ones

The Charmed Ones is described as a a deep violet base loaded with glowy blue flakes and a mix of reflective glitters to add that extra flare when the light hits it right. It is inspired by the show Charmed.

The Charmed Ones had a slightly thicker and chunkier glitter formula. It dries pretty textured, and I would be wary of staining due to the strongly pigmented base. This polish wasn’t that easy to apply, but it does have a lot of depth. I think the reflective glitters were less noticeable in this polish compared to some others that I’ve seen (spoiler: Kathleen & Co’s February HHC polish is also a reflective one and I thought that one was much sparklier).

Shown is two coats plus Cuticula’s Quenched smooth top coat, followed by glossy top coat. The polish is shown in normal studio lighting, and then with flash.

The Charmed Ones will be available for $13 with a cap of 650.

Lilypad Lacquer: You will respect my authoritaaah

You will respect my authoritaaah is described as a bright blue jelly base full of color shifting iridescent flakes. It is inspired by South Park.

You will respect my authoritaaah had a jelly base that was kind of sheer, and with light flake density. The polish is more teal-ish blue than in photos, and I thought the formula made it a bit difficult to get full flake opacity.

Shown is three coats plus glossy top coat.

You will respect my authoritaaah will be available for $14 with a cap of 150.

Nailed It: My Revenge Will Be Artistic

My Revenge Will Be Artistic is described as a purpley pink to pink to gold magnetic pigment in a deep red base with red to gold shifting shimmer and a touch of red/gold UCC flakies. It is inspired by the Beetlejuice Cartoon series.

My Revenge Will Be Artistic had a smooth and slightly thick formula. It magnetizes quickly and easily.

Shown is two coats plus glossy top coat.

My Revenge Will Be Artistic will be available for $13 with a cap of 250.

Rogue Lacquer: Time-Out

Time-Out is a full coverage metallic, UCC and holo flake bomb. It is inspired by Saved By the Bell.

Time-Out had a really flake-dense formula. It could double as a topper if you go in light, but the polish builds very well on its own.

Shown is two coats plus glossy top coat.

Time-Out will be available for $12.50 with no cap.

Wildflower Lacquer: It’s Showtime!

It’s Showtime! is described as a dusty sage with purple to pink to orange shifting shimmer and scattered holo flakes. It is inspired by the Beetlejuice Cartoon series.

It’s Showtime! had a slightly thicker shimmer formula, but the formula overall was smooth and even. The polish dries flat, so I recommend pairing it with a glossy top coat.

Shown is two coats plus glossy top coat.

It’s Showtime! will be available for $13 with a cap of 250.

Lots of gorgeous goodies to choose from this month! Let me know what you’ll be picking up, and thanks for reading.

XOXO,

Lauren
