Bitter Gold: Nail Serum Review

*Disclosure: Press samples – I received this serum for free in exchange for a product review. All reviews and opinions are my own.*

Hi! Today I have something a little different for the blog – a nail care item. I was sent the Bitter Gold strengthening nail serum to review, and as a spoiler, I think this product is quite great.

Bitter Gold is a cosmetic company that is offering a clear nail serum that strengthens and hardens the nail with Silica and Biotin, and they are based in Canada. Bitter Gold is a clear nail serum that produces a bitter taste that is long-lasting and tastes so bad, you will not want to put your fingers in your mouth.

Bitter Gold is available for purchase on the Bitter Gold site for $14.99, and the packaging for this serum is very chic.

I’ve been using this serum before I start a swatching session, and my immediate impressions were that the serum dries quite fast, applies easily, and seems to strengthen the nails overall. The serum has a serum-y scent, which I’m not sure is a helpful description but it isn’t particularly scented or strong in scent. The serum’s formula is thicker more lotion-like than polish, but it comes with a brush applicator that’s really easy to apply. I personally am a fan of the bottle and applicator.

If you’re curious about the “taste” once the serum is dry on your nails, it definitely makes my nails taste bitter. I gave a very small lick to taste my nail beds (note, this is a sentence I never imagined I’d type on this blog), and the taste is quite bitter – I can see how this product would definitely be helpful for nail biters to overcome their habit.

In terms of strengthening properties, I have used the serum a few times before I felt like I was close to a break or bad peeling experience, and it did prevent catastrophic nail breaks from happening for me. It does feel like it helps with nail growth a tiny bit, but that might have also just been me.

Overall, I had a really positive experience with this serum, and it’s definitely one I’ll continue to use. In particular, if you’re someone that’s looking to break your nail biting habit, this is a product I’d recommend you apply on your nails every morning or the like.

Thanks for reading!

XOXO,

Lauren
